Bigger squads are also planned.

While Call of Duty: Warzone isn’t the first time the series has waded into the battle royale genre (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode preceded it), it’s definitely the biggest and the one Activision wants to highlight the most. You don’t need Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to play it, and already it’s seen a massive player count. It’s also just plain…massive. At 150 players, it’s already the biggest battle royale experience out there and, apparently, they want to make this thing even bigger.

Speaking to USA Today, Patrick Kelly, Co-head of Infinity Ward, confirmed that soon they want to see support for an absolutely bonkers 200 players. In fact, internally the developer is already testing matches with that amount of folks.

“We brought a number of twists to battle royale,” said Kelly. “I do think the world you play in is going to be undeniably unique. For one thing, we are initially going to roll out with 150 players, when you are typically seeing 60 to 100.

“Actually, I can tell you we are already playing with 200 players. We are going to release that a little bit later.”

Naturally, along with more players will also come another much requested feature in bigger squads. That’s something the team has also experimented with, even going up to nine people squads. Right now it’s about trying to find the right balance.

“I can tell you we have four- and five-player squads we are already playing with. But we want to launch with something we know works really well and we have tested to the nines and then play around with these different team sizes.”

Call of Duty: Warzone is just getting started, and it seems Activision and Infinity Ward plan to make it even bigger as time goes on. It’s available now as both part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as well as its own standalone download.
